Astari Nite has just presented their highly anticipated new video for their single “Unfulfilled Promise”. From their latest album Midnight Conversations (produced by Assemblage 23’s Tom Shear), the fan favorite single now has its visual counterpart. The video was released today, in honor of Halloween, on PostPunk.com, where the track also saw its premiere and was described as “the band’s best track yet”.
The video itself is fraught with meaning, reflecting and doing justice to the highly emotive lyrics of the song that cover themes of depression and loneliness amongst others.
The video, directed by Ileana Escalante & Louis Molden of Blind Beast, features Astari Nite’s trademark aesthetic: haunting and melancholic, blended with surrealistic and metaphoric scenarios that tap into the psyche of someone who is confronting their demons and dealing with the aftermath of loss and death.
“Sadness and depression come in many shades and colors. If you can see it, stop and take the time to help. Smiling at someone, or a simple hello, can save a life.” –Mychael.
The video and the message it contains comes at a time when the social spotlight is on the topics of depression and suicide, with several beloved musicians and iconic performers having taken their own lives in the last couple of years. Astari Nite’s latest work is another reminder for us of how many people that we know and love, deal with the despair that drives one to become destructive. Too often do we become aware after it is too late. After they are gone.
