South Florida based Post-Punk outfit Astari Nite bring us their latest single and video “Sunday Queen”. The single, premiered on CVLT Nation, is the first track off their upcoming album Midnight Conversations, to be released on Cleopatra Records (July 2018). The cover for the single was hand drawn by Anastasia Gwyn Judd, and artist who inspired herself in witchcraft and the occult.
“Sunday Queen” is a captivating track in which one can hear a myriad of influences, but ultimately adds up to be pure Astari Nite. Among the noticeable points of the abundant keyboard and synth sounds, due to the inclusion of keyboardist Danny AE in the writing process. The track also has a great clarity and depth of sound, result of the expertise and steering hand of producer Tom Shear (Assemblage 23).
“In Sunday Queen, a tragic obsession occurs between magick and love. I feel as the days continue to go by I am finding myself to be more and more infatuated with make believe. There is a certain kind of comfort in tricking the mind into knowing that things aren’t what they seem. Perhaps the characters of the song will meet again in another song on the Midnight Conversations album… ” – Mychael.
Astari Nite channels an obscure beauty in the crossfire between new-wave and post-punk. Formed after years of internalized ideas and melodies, the band quickly became the referents of Post Punk and New Wave in Florida. This three-piece band consists of Mychael (lead vocals), Illia Tulloch (drums) and Howard Melnick (guitar). Based in Miami, they signed to Cleopatra Records last year.
