New York based singer/songwriter Breanna Barbara shared a magical new song and video titled “New Moon” The song, along with recent singles “Big Bang Blues” & “The Way Out” have been featured in the minted Netflix show Sex/Life‘s soundtrack, along the likes of The Knife, Goldfrapp, Cigarettes After Sex, Jessie Ware, HAIM, Purity Ring, Karen O and Dangermouse, Celeste, and more.
“Big Bang Blues” is Breanna Barbara’s most recent physical release, that came out on 7″ via Freeman Street Records. For every sale of the physical 7″, $1 has and will be donated to Until Freedom, an intersectional justice organization rooted in leadership of diverse people of color to address systemic and racial injustice.
For “Big Bang Blues”, Barbara enrolled The Raconteurs & Dead Weather’s Jack Lawrence on the bass and Tall Juan on classical guitar for a new departure, which pulled her into a higher realm to explore the eternal question: what do I believe in? – a fitting follow-up to her collaboration with Tricky, When We Die.
When asked about the meaning of “New Moon” Breanna said in an interview that “is a song all about healing. I wrote it during a very pivotal time for me when I wasn’t very sure if I was ever going to be able to write a meaningful song again or even continue playing music for that matter. It was sort of a desperation meets surrender moment when I was just looking up at the new moon sky singing for clarity. I think every artist has times of self-doubt or blockages but if you’re able to just sit yourself down and create, your art can ironically be the thing that pulls you through to the other side.”
