Cheap Perfume bring it hard and honest with “It’s Okay (To Punch Nazis)”. A fun track overall, the message is pretty clear. The band is not happy with this new rebrand of the extreme right, and are not afraid to sing all about it.
Feminist punkers Cheap Perfume are fun, foul-mouthed, and unapologetic. With members “Jane No” (vocals) and Stephanie Byrne (vocals), as well as David Grimm (drums) and Geoff Brent (bass), the band brings more to the table than just punchy and playful attitudes. Through their aggressive shout-singing, they explore race, sexuality, identity, equality, violence, politics – and the intersectionality of all of those topics and experiences.
The video for the track is simple and fun, with the band playing while images and video are projected over them. The reason all this works so well is the length f the track. Two and a half fast paced minutes, that seem less make the message, video and song finish in a blink of an eye, true punk style.
I have to say though, the first thing that I thought when seeing this video and hearing the track was not “Oh no, another politically charged track” or even “That’s a fun guitar tone!”. No. I said to myself “Ten bucks this song will get stuck in my head.” And I was right! And it will also stick in your head, I’m sure! Check it out here!
