The darlings of the Sacramento post-punk movement, Creux Lies, jump into the spotlight with “Portals”, the first single of their much anticipated debut album The Hearth. The album will be released on August 17th via Cleopatra Records and is now available for pre-order; all those preordering the album this week will get a free download of “Portals”.
Creux Lies manages to create a unique soundscape with “Portals”, combining classic post-punk sounds in the guitar and vocals with heavy use of electronics and mechanical sounding drums, making the track sound like a love child between the influences of The Cure and Nine Inch Nails. “Portals” is a clean sounding, intimate journey to the heart.
The band completed The Hearth in late 2017, recorded at Earthtone Studios in Sacramento. The album, tracked under the innovative care of producer/engineer Patrick Hills (King Woman, Tera Melos, So Stressed), was a cumulative leap forward in the sound of Creux Lies. Aside from recording the LP, these recording sessions also gave us the band’s previous single “Zone”.
“Portals surrounds the story of our romantic mythology and the expectation of humans to defy instinct. We travel back and forth as the beast dominates and our modernity lands in terror. However, sometimes, love prevails.”
– Ean Clevenger (Vocals)
