Exclusive Interview with Lucas Brown
Hello Lucas! Thank you for your time. Can you catch us up on where you started with music and what you have happening now?
Well, music has been all around me my entire life. My father and brother both play music. My brother plays professionally as well. Our mother was a singer too, back in the day.
Because of how much older my sibling were than me, and then of course my parents even older than they; I was influenced by by an extremely broad amalgam of music from all sorts of eras and genres. I like to joke that I listen to, ‘everything from Death Metal, to Frank Sinatra.’
I started playing piano at the age of five, but had since been on and off of it. While going through grade-school I was always a choir boy, but at thirteen I joined orchestra to learn how to play guitar. Fast-forward to when I was sixteen, I started writing songs and the rest is history.
Now I play professionally full-time. Writing, recording and gigging takes up most of my time and I am in love with every minute of it.”
What inspires your music the most? Do you listen to other artists to get inspiration and is there a particular song that never fails to move you emotionally?
Experiences in life ultimately influence my writing and creativity, but I find a tremendous amount of inspiration in the music of others. Right now I am stuck on Jeff Buckley. His song, ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over,’ is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. Hits my heart more than any other song I have ever heard.”
When you are performing do you ever experience performance anxiety or stage fright? If so, what do you do to combat it?
I get a little nervous, but almost a little over-energized when I get up to perform. Best thing I like to do is just to embrace it and let it feed into the energy of the songs I am singing.
Tell us what you do best? What sets you apart from other artists?
I take great pride in my ability to write.
If you were given a one-minute ad slot during the Super Bowl, what would you fill it with?
I could only hope that I could somehow be involved in the filming of a Victoria’s Secret commercial. ha
