FOONYAP is a Calgary-based artist who will release her new album, Palimpsest, on October 21st. Out of this album comes “The Fun Machine”, a beautiful first taste to Foonyap’s music, experimental, and reminiscent at some points to a children’s movie soundtrack, full of wonder. There’s a lot of Chinese influence in the melodies, think of an asian Bjork. We dig it.
Born into a family of Chinese descent, she started violin lessons at the age of 4, entering the Mount Royal Conservatory of Music by the age of 11; one can say music has been a part of her life since the beginning. Foonyap’s music is a deeply raw and unguarded reflection of her tumultuous journey to self-discovery.
Give it a listen and show some love!
