Dreamy, dark and slow paced, Franz Dof’s “Made It” is definitely a track that will take you far away. The music seems expressly designed to make your mind wander imaginary alleys with puddles, encounter dreamlike friends and soar over some dreamclouds. The slow beat of the drums combines with a strong and deep bass presence to lay the foundations for the other instruments, including piano, a steady shaker and an electronic sample resembling some kind of machine. Over all of that, Josefine Brandberg’s voice float like some kind of melancholic but playful spirit. The vocals remind me of something out of Moby’s “Play” album at some points.
The lyrics are a about the feeling of coming home after a long trip. That you are finding yourself back again, and feel that you are safe and sound. It’s also about doing something that you feel are the right thing. “I feel this is the right thing to do, I am coming home. Made it.”
Franz Dof promised himself a year ago that he would make an album, and here we have a a good taste of what it sounds like. “Made It” and the another 10 tracks add up to form Under Water, his first album. Franz met Josephine through a friend, and both overrode the nervousness that comes with attempting these endeavors for the first time, to great results!
Even though “Made It” is about coming back home, let it take you away.
