Art Basel, also designated as Miami Art Week, is upon us. Some of us residents call this weel the “Basel Madness”. And thus, we dive into the deep end of this invasion of art like Alice jumping down the rabithole.
When Miami gets absolutely flooded with art, artists, pop-up galleries, pop-up shows, showcases, promotions, private events, and overbooked restaurants, what to do? Our vote is to hit up the local exhibitions, and pump up the artists that live here but often get eclipsed (or outright squashed) by the bigger and richer visitors (invaders!!!).
Don’t get us wrong, Art Basel, Miami art week and everything else is an amazing occasion, and a great boost to Miami, both economically and culturally. But damn, there’s a lot going on! So our choices are now being narrowed down, and on Saturday, December 8th, we’ll be hitting up “Galaxia”, presented by Thrifty Lion Festivals (aka Natasha Nutkiewicz, an 18-year-old actress and entrepreneur from Argentina). What is “Galaxia”? Well, a bit of everything young and local!
Established to be a voice of young artists (both local and visiting), “Galaxia” aims to be a place where these artists can show their creations amid all the craziness that is the Magic City this week. Among the many artists will be performing will be Palomino Blond (a recent favorite here at TML, we witnessed a phenomenal show at Churchill’s not long ago), and Moongazer (another name that has been steadily climbing the Miami ranks). Add to 10 more bands to the lineup, and it’s a solid night!
Visual artists will include Gabriela Mendez, Bumble, and Karin Num among many others. Check out the full flyer for the entire lineup of music and artists.
So, on December 8th we will see you in the Design District, at 4151 NW 2nd ave, Miami, 33127. Doors open at 9pm, and you can find tickets here.
