Ten shades sideways from “Holly Shit” lies Imperial Triumphant and their particular style of Black Metal.
Born from the metropolis that is the”Big Apple”, Imperial Triumphant embodies the sounds of New York. The chaos, the menagerie, the perils and majesty of the greatest city on earth. They musically portray this great juxtaposition between high society luxury coexisting with absolute filth and urban decay. And boy, oh boy, they managed to do it well!
Listening to Imperial Triumphant like watching The Great Gatsby in an outdoor cinema in Manhattan while on acid. If you can mentally combine Death Metal, Avant-Garde Jazz and Meshuggah into a style, you’d be close to home with how they sound. Their latest album, Vile Luxury is an evil cornucopia of dissonant sounds, complex beats and hypnotic riffs.
And, if their sound weren’t enough, their aesthetic as a band, their image… is creepy, culty and as dark as their music. What’s not to love? Check out their video for their track “Swarming Opulence” down a the end of the text.
Now, I’m not sure if they’ll be able to pull off much theatrics on the stage at Gramps on September 24th, were they will be performing along with Black Metal rising stars UADA (Portland, OR) and Panzerfaust (Toronto, ON), but I am sure this will be one for the books, if the summer heat does not melt us before the day of the show. Regardless of the weather now, make sure to pick up your tickets!
For now, let’s play Imperial Triumphant’s “Swarming Opulence” and take a ride!
