Miami’s OG Indie-rock outfit Modernage has released their highly anticipated new indie rock single “Sideways”. This is the band’s first release since last’s years stand-alone track “End Of The Road”, a tribute to the late Anthony Bourdain. Formed by singer Mario Giancarlo, guitarist Xavier Alexander, guitarist/keyboardist Garcia Freundt, bassist Izzy Silva, and drummer Alex de Renzis, Modernage helped ignite the Miami indie scene in the early 2000s. The band’s unique sound launched them into popularity, sending them on to tour the east coast, west coast, and Mexico.
Guitarist Xavier Alexander moved to Hong Kong in 2017, halting production on new material. The band was re-inspired to pick up where they left off after a powerful ayahuasca experience. Xavier went on to complete production in Hong Kong, with help from Stuart Richardson (Thursday, Rocky Waters Studios).
“Sideways” is an exciting taste of what the band has in store for their fans. While the outfits brand of high energy indie-rock is apparent, so is their new desire to bridge the gap between these two distinct cities: Miami and Hong Kong. With lysergic nuances and soaring melodies, the track has a layered quality like never before. The song is deeply emotive, inspired by the depths of depression. The lyrics meditating on the moment one reaches out to ‘the spirit’ in the last ditch effort for healing. The richness of the production and the possessing vocal style of singer Mario Giancarlo allows the track’s deep message to seamlessly lift you up rather than bringing you down.
The music video for the track is due out in June. The visual counterpart also heavily influenced by the band’s connection to Hong Kong. The entirety of the footage shot in the abandoned portions of village Fung Hang, on an old iPhone 5. The new indie rock single is now available on all major streaming platforms. Check it out below!
