Interview with Emily V
You have such a gift playing the violin. Do you play any other instruments as well?
Thank you! Violin is my main instrument. I also play self taught guitar, some piano, mandolin, and harmonica. I have always wanted to also learn drums! I have dabbled here and there.
What advice would you give to someone just learning to play the violin?
This is a difficult instrument but with dedication and perseverance, you can become any kind of violinist you want! My first teacher told me that as long as I practice and learn great technique on the violin, then I can do anything I want on my violin!! This was a pivotal moment in my life!
What has been your favorite stage to play so far?
This is difficult to answer, because its not just a stage, but often times for me, I am collaborating with a new band or being a guest performer. My experiences on stage are always different and fascinating to me. A handful of years ago, I toured with the punk band, The Adicts. We played sold out shows at The Observatory, which was wild and fun. We also played at The Punk Rock Bowling Fest in Vegas. At the time, it was the biggest outdoor audience I had performed to yet…. 10,000 people.
I have gotten to perform with Walter Trout, blues guitarist and his amazing band at The Warner Grand Theatre. Also, another very memorable stage was The Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo with Lukas Nelson and The Promise of The Real. It was special because I grew up in that area and I love Lukas and his band!
How do you find balance in the busy life of an LA performer?
It is a definite challenge! I take my schedule week by week in terms of planning out my personal life, family and accomplishing goals outside of my weekly performances. Some things that truly help are my workouts and eating very clean and healthy! It helps me keep up with this crazy life!
Describe your sound in one sentence if you can!
Jimi Hendrix, Jimi Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan had a love child that was babysat by David Laflamme.
If you could only listen to one song on repeat for a solid week. What song would you choose?
Right now I am really into The Rival Sons. I would pick one of their songs, either “Jordan”, “Imperial Joy”, “Shooting Stars”, or “Sugar On the Bone”, “Electric Man” or “Keep on Swinging”….. Um, I know that’s supposed to be just one song, but that is a hard decision! I really dig their art.
Please let us know where we can stalk you on line and stay up to date with your busy show schedule!
