Kan Wakan (Gueorgui Linev) is an artist that you probably have heard of. He has done collaborations with Moses Sumney, Thundercat, and toured with Lianne La Havas, and Arctic Monkeys, just to name a few. Kan Wakan is well-known for his cinematic approach of composing music, we found out that Linev has scored for films as well which comes to no surprise. He is gearing up towards releasing his album “Phantasmagoria Vol.1” this August 31st, and we are excited to get a taste of it with “Indigo.” This song features one of his favorite collaboration partners Elle Olsun, her smooth voice careers the track through-out the heavy (but amazing) instrumental jams. Linev is huge in collaboration and this traces back to his early days in Bulgaria:
“My earliest memories of art and music, of culture, are from a time when Bulgarian artists were forced to engage censorship within the message and air of their work. Art could only be agreeable sentiments, imbued with subtle shades of frustration and revealed in layers, and at risk. The disparity between the ideas they shared with each other and the acceptable forms their expressions could take gave their work significance and formed a community with a powerful sense of purpose.” – Gueorgui Linev
If you happen to be in Europe this September 15th, be sure to stop by Bulgaria to celebrate the release of Kan Wakan’s new album. Linev curated his own festival, Outlier fest, in his hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria. The festival will feature George Cosby, Rachel Fannan, Ivo Dimchev, Jessica Childress, Alexander Vincent, and others.
