Not to be confused with the television series, American Greed is on the case, with two new singles, “Livin The Dream,” and “Together.” They’ve been recognized by the L.A. Music Awards, and The Hollywood Walk Of Fame, for their outstanding efforts, and it really can’t come as much of a surprise. Their lineup is headed by former Chuck Berry and Head East, drummer, Michael Mesey, as well as his counterparts, all of whom are highly accomplished musicians. With so much talent, and most likely, connections, American Greed can much pretty much march in any direction they like. To their credit, they have chosen to pen some socially conscious and spiritually stimulating music.

“Together” is a shining example of the collective capabilities of American Greed. The intro is shaded with an even toned guitar riff, and is soon joined by the rhythm section, who play off one another, effortlessly. Speaking of rhythm, Bob Guion, doesn’t get heavily spotlighted on either track. It’s his competent playing, and impeccable timing, that give the most crucial backdrop to everything going on in front of him. His priceless contributions, deserve to be acknowledged.
Conveniently categorized as a ballad, “Together” is more than just a simple love song. The track has that element, of course, but it is applicable to a variety of yearnings. AG do make a reference to the Armed Forces, as a partial inspiration for the song, as they are among those who suffer from separation imposition, the most. It’s a gloriously simple concept, preceded by a gloriously simple title. Coming off of the last 11 months, together might just be one of the most coveted ideals, in existence.
“Livin The Dream” is the sister single to “Together.” It extends the same kind of virtues, as the aforementioned, but aims to focus on humbleness and gratitude. There comes a point in most people’s lives, when they weigh up where they are, with where they had hoped to be. For some, what they wanted and what they have, may not match up, well. AG suggests being gracious for the journey, itself, as it is the greatest gift, and the true indicator of success.
Musically, “Livin The Dream” is spacious and meditative. AG fluffs up the drama, by dropping out for Farver’s vocals, and then bringing it back in, steadily. This song feels simultaneously fresh and classic. The production quality is so strong that the track leaps from the speakers and feels current, yet it has that chiseled aura of blind faith. With lyrics like, Material possessions/well I’ve had my share of those, it’s unquestionable what AG is not prescribing for a balanced and fulfilling life.

American Greed hasn’t fully divulged the inspiration for the name, but maybe they feel it’s self explanatory. You would expect them to come at you, like a stampede of vitriol, but instead they serenade you with wisdom. It’s hard to argue this music is unexpectedly pertinent, in a societal sense. Even if the packaging is the of the same material of an era gone by. There is some advice, that just never gets better than this.
