Monterrey‘s video for his new single “Make Me Feel” is full of Miami references, synth wave sounds, bright neon colors, arcade games and, our favorite, classic serial killers!
“Make Me Feel” is the lead single of Monterrey’s upcoming EP Elapse, due out on July 6th, the follow up of the band’s debut EP Neon. This song shows the evolution on Monterrey’s sound, featuring skilled sound design and nostalgic but catchy vocals, along with a sophisticated dance beat. According to Roger del Pino, the creative force behind Monterrey: “The use of repetition in the vocals is key to this concept which is inspired by the crescendos of being in love. It is also the inner turmoil experienced by a computer attempting to assimilate to human emotion.”
The video for the single tells the story of a young woman being rehabilitated at a mental institution. We follow her through a form of music therapy where we experience her become detached from the modern world and reality as we follow her down into her psyche. A series of flashbacks lead us down a rabbit hole of events which led her to into that room. The video was shot in Miami at various locations and was influenced by cult directors such as Gaspar Noé and Alfred Hitchcock, and for some moments it reminds us to the edge that the Swedish version of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo has. The video co-written by Jessica Jetter, and was filmed and edited by Tomas Heslop of Creative 101 Studios.
