Legendary photographer, Mick Rock will be at Books and Books tomorrow May 29th for a book signing ahead of his exhibition opening at The Bonnier Gallery on Thursday, May 30th. A prolific and famed photographer, Mick Rock is best known for his iconic shots of rock and roll legends including David Bowie, for whom he was the official photographer and videographer. His book ‘The Rise of David Bowie, 1972-1973′ features iconic shots of the artist, along with intimate backstage shots, 50% of which have never before been seen by the public. The compilation was published in 2016 with Bowie’s blessing and paints a profound portrait of the artist’s rise to transcendent stardom. Often referred to as ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies’, Rock’s insight into the world of music is unique and inimitable.
Along with the book signing, the event will also feature an artist talk by Rock, and a discussion moderated by Lolo Reskin, the founder and owner of Sweat Records, one of Miami’s most highly regarded record stores and community institutions located in the Little Haiti area. Aside from Reskin’s expansive resume, which includes co-hosting the Art Loft on South Florida PBS, serving as a Governor on the Florida Chapter Board of the Recording Academy, and most recently launching an in-house label Sweat Record’s Records, the business owner and music enthusiast has maintained a passionate and hands-on involvement in the local cultural landscape.
The event begins at 8 pm at the Coral Gables landmark Book & Books and is free with an RSVP via Eventbrite. The forthcoming exhibition curated and housed by The Bonnier Gallery – ‘Mick Rock: A Retrospective Pop Up Exhibition’ will be opening its doors the following day at 7 pm.
