Molly Hanmer & The Midnight Tokers are an Americana/ folk quartet who are ready to make you stomp your boots and slap your blue jeans along to their latest single, “Fool’s Run”. The track was released last week (August 31st) and premiered on No Depression, combined with a music video filmed in the band’s locale of Los Angeles (CA). The video stars fellow musician Kara Connolly, and depicts her painfully yet powerfully moving out her live-in boyfriend ‘William’, and moving on with her life.
The lyrics (and accompanying video) are direct parallels of Hanmer’s own experiences, thus writing the indignant anthem for independent women everywhere. The momentum garnered by this track galvanized Molly to steam ahead with her music career and complete her debut full length.
The single itself is an enigmatic mix of blues guitar, essential Americana attitude, a pinch of rock influences and some psychedelic folk tossed in for good measure. The end result is a catchy four-minute track that would fit the title montage of the next Dukes of Hazzard movie.
‘Fool’s Run’ is the first single off Molly Hanmer & The Midnight Tokers’ debut album Stuck in a Daydream, due to be released this October. The album was produced by Marvin Etzioni (co-founder of Lone Justice; who has produced/played on albums by Peter Case, Stephen Stills, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Keith Richards to name a few.) and was engineered/mixed by 2-time Grammy winner Sheldon Gomberg (Ben Harper, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Rickie Lee Jones).
