With a name like Slow Babylon, one can already imagine that the track will be chill laid back, but what I didn’t expect was the full timehop back, to a sound that combines the neon colors of the 90’s with a groove straight out of the 70’s. Put those ingredients in the blender and you get “Funk About It”.
It is kind of hard to place the track into any one genre, but Leo Vasilets, mastermind behind Slow Babylon says the style lurks somewhere between space disco, electro rock and psychedelic funk. He personally calls the style “Escobar’s Mustache” (I’m sure there’s a reason), and I if can roll with that description, so should you. The project is based in Moscow (Russia), and is inspired by the golden era of soul, disco and afro funk; bands like Funkadelic, Hihache and so on.
“Funk About It” has on vocals the great talents of Jeffrey van den Dungen, from the Netherlands. The track lyrics are personally based, as one could imagine with verses like “What you doing to me, girl, and all I can do is to funk about it”.
Let’s see what all this funk is about!
