Surreal, mystical, and sometimes grotesque, we introduce you to the work of Natalie Shau, a multimedia artist and photographer from Vilnius, Lithuania.
Shau focuses on fashion and portrait photography as well as digital illustration and photo art. Despite her personal work, Natalie also creates artwork and photography for musicians, theater, fashion magazines, writers and advertisement. Her art has been published on the French edition of Vogue magazine and showcased in galleries around the world.
On her pieces she combines photography, digital painting and 3D elements to create fairytale worlds for the characters that she invents. She usually takes pictures of models and work on them after on computer to get the surreal cartoonish effect.
Natalie claims to find inspiration on her dreams, on the ghostly characters of Gogol and the dramatic women of Dostoyevsky.
During an interview with Style + Wisdom Magazine Natalie Shau revealed, “Most of Dostoyevsky ‘s characters are very tragic and kind inside, even if they do wrong and make evil choices. Also Dostoyevsky said: ‘Beauty will save the world!’ I think it is true.”

Shau enfoca su trabajo en moda, retratos, ilustración digital y fotografía artística. Además de sus obras personales, Natalie también colabora con gráficas para músicos, obras de teatro, revistas de moda, escritores y publicidad. Sus trabajos han sido publicados en la edición francesa de la revista Vogue y exhibidos en galerías de arte alrededor del mundo.
En sus obras combina fotografía, pintura digital y elementos 3D, utilizados para crear mundos de hadas para los personajes que inventa. Usualmente toma fotografías de modelos y luego trabaja sobre ellas digitalmente para lograr efectos surrealistas.
Natalie manifiesta encontrar su inspiración en sus propios sueños, en los personajes fantasmagóricos de Gogol y en las mujeres dramáticas de Dostoievsky.
En una entrevista con la revista Style + Wisdom Natalie Shau reveló: “La mayoría de los personajes de Dostoievsky son trágicos pero nobles en su interior, a pesar de que hagan daño o tomen decisiones con maldad. Dostoievsky a su vez alguna vez dijo: ‘La belleza salvará al mundo’, y creo que es verdad”
