The black and white urban backdrop of Jersey City. A stylishness that only comes with joint introspection and a rock n’ roll attitude to begin with. The feeling that danger could be lurking around every corner only trumped by the sense of humility and hilarity surrounding even the most mundane of neighborhood features. No, this isn’t the lead-in to a Kevin Smith movie from the 90’s – it’s the foundation of the new music video for Lost Romance’s “Heart on a Wire” single, and for this critic, it’s absolutely one of the more compelling setups to have found its way into a rock video this December.

Despite the simplistic – albeit cinematic – approach taken to the visual component of Lost Romance’s new track, there’s a jarring aesthetic to the cohesion between the soundtrack and the shots we see on screen that really makes me eager to see more of what this band can do. “Heart on a Wire” is already such a thunderbolt right out of the gate that I can imagine it was difficult to come up with a specific concept for the video in the first place, but in deciding to avoid filler and stick to the bread and butter of their style, I think they make an enormous impact in raising their profile among mainstream audiences.
Lost Romance deliver some Garden State-style grunge in “Heart on a Wire” that I didn’t even know I needed to hear this season, and while theirs is a bit heavier in tone and presentation than a lot of what you’ll hear on the FM dial this month will be, it’s definitely not devoid of a pop hook. This is a song I think a lot of people can get into regardless of their taste in hard and alternative rock music, which hasn’t been the case for many of this band’s peers in recent times.
