Welcome back to Too Much Love’s weekly round-up of Miami events not to miss. We’ve picked an array of music-centric parties and events, diverse enough to satisfy anyone’s tastes. As we near the end of the “Summer”, Miami’s eternal season, there’s no sight yet of these party makers slowing down, so pace yourselves, and enjoy !
August 23rd – The Takeover @ The Anderson
An evening of rock is taking over The Anderson again tonight, Thursday the 23rd, starting at 9 pm! This latest edition of Too Much Love’s bi-monthly event will not only feature DJ sets by Wrong’s Alex Nunez but for the first time, we will have a live set. The Hours Strange, the musical intersection of Jette Kelly and Charlie T, will be playing some live tunes for us. Simply put, ‘The Takeover’ is a night of friends, tunes, and margaritas, and a friendly reminder to all that good times are not only reserved for the weekends. This is a free event with great drink specials all night including $7 margaritas, $3 Mickey’s and $4 beers among others! August 24th – Warehouse party AKA Sensory Deprivation 229 NE 65th st
Hosted by 229: an experimental arts community and events space in Little Haiti, The Galactic Effect et al. will be throwing a free warehouse party called ‘Sensory Deprivation’. Starting at 9 pm and ending at 3 am, the event includes visuals by Telluxe, and sets by Galactic Effect SomeJerk Loka Skinny Hendrix (a farewell set) TIDUR, Cybol and Lxvxndr. Though there is no cover, there is a capacity limit, so partygoers are encouraged to RSVP at the link added below to ensure entry. More info
August 24th – Buried Alive – Metal, Punk, and Noise fest @ Churchills
This Friday, check out Churchill’s latest edition of metal, punk and noise fest: Buried Alive. Featuring B.G.M., Born Beneath, Sevensins, Omnisium, Alloy, Male Model, CumScum and many more, the bands will be divvied up between 3 stages, including the back patio, where visual displays will include porn of the “weirdest” kind the artists can find. August 25th – Kultura Underground 80’s “The Lost Party”
After their long hiatus, Kultura “The Lost Party”: An underground boutique music night, and gathering of music aficionados of everything 80s, is BACK. The all vinyl night will be taking place at Terramia, an untouched music space and restaurant on Biscayne Blvd with a front and side patio. With DJ sets from La Strummer, Richard V, Dino, and Carlos Atomic – Orly Calderon (one of the organizers of the event) explains that the ‘sound of Kultura’ is all encompassing – the focus not just on Brit/ American wave, but covering all regions of the world…and ALL THE WAVE! August 25th – Secret Garden Pool Party @ The Vagabond hotel
Fresh off their recent renovation and revamping, the Vagabond hotel will be hosting a ‘Secret Garden Pool Party’ this Saturday starting at 2 pm. Get your day drink on, and soak up some sun at the poolside bar while you listen to some tunes by Brother Dan, Freckles, and Los Negros among others. With food and apparel vendors like DEvaswimwear and Euro Style Kitchen ready for your every need, there’s not much room for wanting. August 26th – Gender Blender @ Las Rosas
Crowned “Best Queer Party of 2018” by Miami New Times, Gender Blender is back this Sunday at 10 pm. The monthly queer event, formerly held at Churchill’s but now throwing down at Las Rosas, combines drag, music, performance, and art of all kinds, for a ruckus and awesome night. The event is dedicated to showcasing lgbtq+ musicians and talent, which here in Miami, is plentiful. Gracing the stage this month, the line-up includes Donzii (post-punk), Taxi (dark-wave), Miss Michigan (glam), and the debut showcase of Space force. The event is not only free, but drink specials will be poured all night including 25% off all drinks. You can also expect expert drag performances by Kat Wilderness and Aurora Whorealis, and Dj Frankie will be on the decks all night. More info
