The name Tacky Little Hatshop is a perfect translation for the sounds heard on their track, “Dreamscope.” Kicking off with whimsical melodic synths, we’re quickly serenaded by lead singer Anneke’s soft, dreamy vocals, followed by a refreshing mixture of romance, psychedelia and playfulness. The track is synth-heavy, but the drums provide for some epic ups-and-downs. The music video also delivers an accurate picture of this eclecticism, as it depicts the singer jumping to and from a selection of her personal dreamscapes. Definitely worth watching!
Based in Long Beach, CA, Tacky Little Hatshop makes “art rock” inspired by Abba (the purveyors of the classic track “Dancing Queen”), psyche-rock, and video-game soundtracks. “Dreamscope”, however, contains these elements but with a tinge of Warpaint and Tame Impala. Check out their album Where The Whales Go To Die (2015) for a taste.
