Bam! and just like that, if you’re a film buff, your Saturday plans are made!
The MUFF will feature 20+ short films from local South Florida filmmakers. There are a variety of formats and genres being presented: drama, comedy, scifi, horror, documentary, animation; with vastly differing tones, perspectives, budgets, and levels of technical prowess.
Following the film screening there’ll be three separate components: MUFFtalk lectures, live music performances, and the Circle-Jerk Awards.
MUFFtalk, on Churchill’s outside stage, features guest speakers from the film industry and academia giving casual yet informative talks about their areas of expertise.
Meanwhile, indoors will have four local musical acts performing: Quantum Waves, an alt-electronic duo who are also debuting their new music video “Zero Miles Per Hour” at the MUFF; Armageddon Man, a beloved local punk band; The Wombombs, a brilliant retro surf band playing at Churchill’s for the first time; and BLEUBIRD, a popular indie rapper from Fort Lauderdale. In the midst of all that, the first ever Circle-Jerk Awards will happen, an irreverent production meant to skewer the pretentiousness and cronyism infecting most awards presentations.
Following the initial film screening in the main room there will be a re-screening all of the films in the smaller Green Room in the bowels of the club. Nobody shows up on time in Miami, so any latecomers will have the ability to catch the films they missed in the Green Room while the earlier crowd watches the bands play inside.
See ya there!
