Clari Gotelli is a cutting edge ludic artist from Argentina, but currently living in Sao Paulo. Through her work she makes colourful animals come to life and interact in everyday situations.
Her experience as a graphic designer made her discover a creative universe where she represents her emotions and perceptions of the world. In her pieces she combines figurative and abstract art using collage and multi-layered techniques.
In this interview Clari tells us about her experience with art, her motivations and how her passion for expression began.
When did you start drawing and painting?
I started painting when I began to work as a graphic designer in a Studio where I didn’t have to be very creative, so I felt that I needed to express myself more. When I began drawing I discovered that I loved imperfection so I let myself draw in my own way and to express my ideas in my personal language.
What triggered your passion for art?
What catches my attention is trying to discover what any kind of artists want to express trough their work. To experience intense feelings when watching or listening to art is what makes me feel passionate. So with my art I try to transmit my feelings and emotions.
How did you feel when you exhibit your work for the first time?
I didn’t really like it because I felt kind of naked. I show a lot of my emotions in my work so in my first exhibition I felt judged, it was hard for me.
Can you describe your art in three words?
Emotions, Imperfection, Unique.
What was the most extreme emotion that you ever reflected in your work?
I think that everything is extreme in art, that’s the way I feel about it, but what I always try to reflect is acceptance of things the way they are.
An artist that gives you Goosebumps….
The Quay Brothers, I admire them in many senses, graphic, narrative and the sounds they create.
Favorite quote: I don’t have just one but I really like one from The Little Prince: “Walking in a straight line you won’t get too far”
¿Cuándo empezaste a pintar y dibujar?
