Miami duo XAXO (comprised of brothers Dav and Johnny “Johnny Echo” Julca) has announced their forthcoming debut EP Looking For Nothing, which is slated to see an early fall 2016 release. The EP will come out via Space52, a brand new record label and collaborative creative space operating as an imprint under Miami’s own Mishu Music.
Fusing electrofunk, rock, R&B and pop, XAXO’s sound is as eclectic as their diverse background. Born in Panama to Peruvian parents, the brothers found themselves spending their formative teens in Ohio
The brothers parted ways after high school; Dav pursued further musical studies and a solo career in Mexico City and Puerto Rico while Johnny spent time in the studio developing his production skills. The brothers re-convened in Miami in 2010 and began writing and producing for other very popular musicians.
2015 found the brothers itching to not only redirect focus onto their own new project, XAXO, but also as an awakening to their role in the greater Miami creative community. From this spark, the brothers formed Space52, an underground music and art movement rooted in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Art District whose name stems from an exclusive, speakeasy-style warehouse where they collaborate with the scene’s most forward-thinking artists.
In advance of the EP release, the guys have released the video for preview track “Safe Unknown,” with support from Mexican Vine & YouTube influencer Nath Campos.
XAXO will play tonight at Bardot, Miami with Austin Paul.
