As a plus-sized and queer individual, Brye has taken the music industry by storm with her self-produced tracks and captivating songwriting skills. With her undeniable talent and viral presence on TikTok, Brye has truly made a mark in the music world. In addition to her viral hits, such as “LEMONS,” Brye uses her platform to address important issues beyond just opposing misogyny in her lyrics. She single-handedly sparked a movement with her body positivity anthem, “Diet Culture,” solidifying her role as more than just an artist but also an advocate for change. Building on this success, Brye is now releasing a new album titled “RECOVER,” which fully embraces the hype surrounding her.

The album starts with the title track “RECOVER” where she fearlessly discusses the intricacies of eating disorder recovery. Brye’s signature folk/alt-pop sound shines brighter than ever. The soft guitar melody combined with her voice work is simply amazing to hear and a great start to our journey. 

“Diet Culture” comes next to the previously earth-shattering released single. The song remains as strong as it has ever been, delving into touching subjects about the state of our society. A powerful message for all who feel rejected because of their weight. Never again will they have to feel alone and lost. I can’t help but think about Alanis Morissette while listening to Brye’s music (Yes, this is yet another Alanis reference). Brye is obviously heavily inspired by the Canadian singer and that’s a very big plus for me. 

“NOTHING!” is the continuation of our incredible ride. This unapologetic tune represents the strong need for self-love and to not over-rely on others. With its catchy sound and powerful lyrics, Brye has created a song that perfectly captures the spirit of independence and empowerment. It’s a song that encourages us to take our own path and never be afraid to express ourselves. It’s about embracing our uniqueness and being true to who we are.

Brye exposes her inner dreams and goals with “Ode to a Recession.” This spunky little tune shows us a more lively side of Brye’s music. The song is a reminder that even in difficult times, we can still find strength and courage to pursue our dreams. Brye is proof that with hard work, perseverance, and dedication, anything is possible. “Too Sensitive” touches very sensitive subjects. This one feels more experimental, very similar to Björk. Brye is not afraid to explore a different aspect of her music, delivering a powerful track filled with emotion. 

“It’s About You” is where stuff gets real. A pop-infused anthem where Brye is free to express herself to the fullest. This song brings a sense of empowerment and self-love. Brye’s vocals are incredibly impactful and uplifting, making “It’s About You” a must-listen. In “Jenna” she uses her fearless determination and delves into the exploration of unrequited queer love and religious shame. Easily the best song on the album and my personal favorite. 

With “Ageless” we hit the breaks. Brye slows down the tempo to focus on her emotions, reflecting on the difficult journey she has gone through. “Ageless” is a powerful and emotional track that will leave you inspired. “Direct Message” marks the end of this remarkable adventure. The short song is also the most impactful, conveying a strong sense of closure and finality. Brye leaves us wanting even more.

Brye’s “RECOVER” is a powerful and impactful piece of art. With her unique perspective and willingness to tackle important topics, she is raising awareness of the most important issues that plague our society today. “RECOVER” is an album that encourages self-reflection, embraces body positivity, and challenges oppressive systems.
