GP, the face behind The Unfinished Story, has carved a distinctive niche in the music landscape, reminiscent of the solitary brilliance often associated with Nine Inch Nails. His artistic journey is a solitary pursuit punctuated by occasional collaborations with kindred musical spirits. Armed with a guitar and over a quarter-century of mastery, GP didn’t embark on his professional music career until 2014. What began as a cherished hobby evolved into an all-consuming passion, propelling him to transform his dreams into a tangible reality.

The Unfinished Story’s sonic palette is a rich tapestry woven from threads of emo, adult contemporary, and folk, resulting in a deeply personal and resonant sound. Their 2022 EP, “dark skies,” marks a departure from previous works, both conceptually and sonically. This collection of four songs, dedicated to the power of human connection, is a testament to the collaborative spirit. GP’s partnership with Asher Condit of Kingship Recording Company infused the EP with a new vibrancy, incorporating percussion, bass, layered vocals, violins, and even a trumpet solo without compromising the acoustic foundation and raw vocal delivery that define The Unfinished Story’s essence.

The Unfinished Story’s artistic evolution is evident in their subsequent releases. The standalone single, “Aliens,” is a whimsical exploration inspired by the haunting imagery of the film “Annihilation.” Featuring the evocative violin work of Austin James and accompanied by a quirky animated video, the song is a playful departure from their usual fare.

Most recently, The Unfinished Story has reimagined Nirvana’s iconic anthem, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” This bold cover showcases their distinctive style, characterized by a powerful vocal work combined with a strong acoustic rhythm. By infusing the grunge within the track with their signature sound, The Unfinished Story has breathed new life into a beloved song, creating a fresh and unexpected interpretation.

“This cover song was inspired by hearing Florence and the Machine’s unique cover of the No Doubt song “I’m Just a Girl” on the show Yellowjackets on Showtime last summer. After hearing it, I thought, what song from the 90s that had a major impact would I do completely differently in my own acoustic style? After going through my old CD collection (yes, I still have them in my basement!) and thinking about a few different songs, I landed on Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
