Three days of music, energy and mud were the results of the second edition of Lollapalooza Brazil, the festival that took place between March 29th and 31st at the Jockey Club of Sao Paulo with the presence of more than 160.000 music lovers.
According to the locals in Sao Paulo you can experience all the four seasons in one day, during Lollapalooza it felt that many days were included in less than 24 hours.
Mud, rain and craziness during the Crystal Castles´ show. Light, deepness and surrealism while the Flaming Lips songs were floating in the atmosphere. English pop, a little bit superficial, when the guys from Passion Pit were up on stage; at the same time and a few feet of distance, Deadmou5 was driving thousands of people crazy wearing his unique helmet. The Killers gave a neat, effective but surprise-less show, and Knife Party played with a kind of violent frenzy. All these different realities were happening one after the other without giving a rest to the years, the emotions and ankles. And there is even more… Mike Patton and his band presented the new Tomahawk record. Franz Ferdinand impressed all the nostalgic lovers of rock music from the 00´s. Steve Aoki rode his boat on top of his fans and smashed a couple of cakes on the crowd. The Black Keys were the representation on earth of good and professional songs and Queens of The Stone Age gave and stunning show that almost made me forget everything I described before.
Here are the pics of some of the most outstanding shows of Lollapalooza Brazil 2013.
Crystal Castles
Out of orbit, Alice Glass and Ethan Kath did what they know the best, driving their fans insane with electric and almost psychotic rituals. The show, that started with the light of the afternoon and ended with the dark of early night, featured the always welcome mosh, shots of whiskey from the bottle and hyperkinetic melodies.
The Flaming Lips
“What if a plane crushes into us while we are playing? There will be a lot of beautiful people dead,” said Wayne Coyne a little impressed by the big planes that seemed to be flying towards us when they were on their way to land at Sao Paulo´s airport. During their show, the band from Oklahoma played songs from their latest record, The Terror, along with their most important hits proving that psychedelic music is still alive.
In an hour and a half of beautiful songs and constant interaction with the public, The Flaming Lips showed that humans are creatures of light.
Queens of The Stone Age
“I´m the drunk guy who sleeps on your couch”, said ironically Josh Homme in the middle of a powerful show that honored the meaning of rock & roll. Troy Van Leeuwen’s sublime guitars, the potent new drum of Jon Theodore and the shouts of excitement from the audience made the entire Jockey Club tremble since the beginning till the end of the show.
Besides playing all their classic songs such as Go with the Flow, Make it wit Chu , No one knows and A Song for the Dead, QOTSA premiered a new track called My God is The Sun, the single for their upcoming album.
Franz Ferdinand
The Scottish foursome lead by Alex Kapranos broke the ice with No you Girls, song that was received with euphoria by the thousands and thousands of fans from the band. In their first show in Brazilian ground Franz Ferdinand played some new songs and the essential hits Take me out, Walk Away and The Dark of the Matinee.
Steve Aoki
The American DJ founder of Dim Man Records dare to compete with The Black Keys for closing the second day of Lollapalooza. While the duo from Ohio was playing on the main stage, Aoki was doing his thing at Palco Perry, making thousands of party lovers dance, having fun with his inflatable boat and smashing his classical birthday cakes into his fans faces.
The Black Keys
The rock – country band formed by Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney was the main attraction on the second day of Lollapalooza Brazil 2013. In a set that lasted almost an hour and a half, The Black Keys played songs from all their seven albums putting emphasis on “Brothers”, “Attack and Release” and “En el Camino“. During their show they proved that good songs are enough to feed a mob of 50 thousand people.
The Flaming Lips
Queens of The Stone Age
Además de tocar los clásicos infaltables como Go with the Flow, Make it wit Chu , No one knows y A Song for the Dead, QOTSA estrenaron un tema nuevo, My God is The Sun, adelanto de su próximo disco.
Franz Ferdinand
Steve Aoki
The Black Keys
