Stylist and fashion producer Adrian Fagetti is a multidisciplinary artist who uses color, shapes, textures and imagination to be captured in the instantaneity of time, creating images and situations that are immortalized in major national and international magazines.
Born in Tucumán but based in Buenos Aires, Adrian Fagetti not only established himself as one of the leading aesthetic icons in Argentine campaigns, but also created its own fashion school to transmit and create new talents.
In this interview with Too Much Love we immerse ourselves in the mind, the passions and motivations of this creative.
What triggered your passion for fashion?
Perhaps it all started because at age 19 I was an intern at the Library of the French Alliance. There I had access to many fashion magazines, and they captivated me. I’ve never had that contact with fashion before. What I saw made me realize it was a world that attracted me too much for not hearing its call.
Who do you consider your mentors?
I would not say I have one or two main mentors, I think all the people that I meet in life leaves me something, of all of them I learn something, it doesn’t matter if it is a customer, an editor, a teacher or a student . If you are permeable, there are teachings everywhere.
In your work we can constantly find allusions to fantasy and dreams. What are the elements that should always be present in your productions?
Do you really you notice that? That’s great! I think the question answers itself. Fantasy, surrealism, hallucinations… should always be there. That’s something that feeds me, and that’s what generally pushes me away from commercial success.
And how does that coexists this with the commercial purpose of many of the campaigns that you do?
One has to be able to differentiate between the productions that you do with a creative and personal propose from the ones that are a service for a client. In some opportunities it is complicated, because most of the time we think we are right and that our opinion or our aesthetic is more valuable or correct than the one proposed by the client. Often we have to relegate the some creative aspects. It’s always better to complement each other.
Do you think there is an Argentine fashion style?
Sure. It is quite plural fortunately, very European, but with a very peculiar and unique filter. I love that. Long live the national style!
What was it that led you to open your own school?
I did not feel comfortable in the places where I studied, and I figured that if I that happened to me, maybe other people had felt the same, so I decided to take action on the matter. I’m not the type of person who complains and does nothing, if there is something that I don’t like, I take action on the matter and transform the context or I directly erase that from my perception.
When I started with the school I didn’t think it would become what it is today. Today, although I’m planning a major expansion, I’m not very sure of what it would become. I love that factor of uncertainty because it fills me with adrenaline. And above all, I love teaching.
What was the production that made you feel more proud? And what would be your dream production?
Every production is important for me, all of them have a hidden special merit, that only my team and I know. Some of them have been better, there are some more forgettable. Perhaps in the ones that I had more creative freedom are the ones that I will always remember.
And my dream production is obviously I’m dreaming now.
¿A quienes considerás tus mentores?
