Australia Is Giving Us One of the Most Promising Alternative Bands of the Year: Lipstereo
I'm ecstatic to present you with a little gem I just found. Lipstereo (love the name) is an Australian indie rock band. It's four members who are young but with a lot of spirit and heart. Coming from Melbourn they came together in 2019. Getting inspiration from bands like The Strokes, Weezer and Arctic Monkeys, The Ramones, and Blondie they create a performance reminiscent of late nights at CBGB and spilled drinks. Composed by frontman Sam Stranges on vocals and rhythm guitar, Andrew Stainsby on lead guitar, Tage Hosking-Gregory on bass, and Jesse Porter on drums. The music of Lipstereo is reminiscent of Phil Spector's Spotify playlist in a parallel universe when loud guitars are combined with post-punk songwriting.
Lipstereo is one of the most interesting bands coming out of Australia. Their debut EP "Modern Mythology" was a massive success, receiving acclaim from big and small publications and garnering a dedicated fan base. Now they're ready to release their newest project. As part of Noise11.com's live-streamed concert called "Let Me Help - Children Of The World", their brand new EP called "Live At Bakehouse" was recorded and filmed. They premiered three songs during a live recording at Bakehouse Studios in Melbourne, including "You Got The Things", "Push The Tide", and "Feedback". In support of children's charities around the world, this collection of works was televised live from New York City. They've been described as "contagious indie rock" a title well-earned by the band.
The first song we have on the table is "You Got The Things". Explosive and energetic are two words I would use to describe it. It has in-your-face guitar riffs and drums that will have your head banging for days. Sam's voice is a delight to hear. Deep and heavy is exactly what the song needs. The chorus is catchy and will have you singing along. It's the perfect song to blast anywhere you are and show off your singing skills. Overall, it's an outstanding song and an excellent way to kick off the album. The next one on the list is "Push The Tide". They chose a more melodic angle here. We still get the same amazing guitars and riffs, Sam is now adding raspy to his voice work and I just love it. The amount of intensity on display here is outstanding, the drums are driving the song and adding energy to it. The bridge is intense and will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Overall, it's a great song and a great follow-up to the first one. Last but not least we have "Feedback", opening with mesmerizing guitar, we start slow after then we're introduced to a chaotic chorus to once again pull the breaks, this song is a complete rollercoaster of emotions. It shows the impressive talents of these pups. They might be young but they know how it's done, rocking real hard. Overall, the song is a remarkable example of their abilities and creativity. It's an excellent way to close the album, showcasing their potential.
These songs are accompanied by a trio of simple but effective videos. We get a clear glimpse of the band doing what they do best. The videos bring to life these catchy tunes and let us see the members in their element. The visuals also capture the spirit of the music, making it a perfect package.
I highly recommend "Live at the Bakehouse"! I'll keep a close eye on them and their future releases. They made a nice home in my Spotify favorites and I bet they will do the same for you. Their music is truly special; if you haven't heard of them yet, give them a chance. You won't regret it! Give their songs a listen and you'll be hooked.
