Break Society’s Shackles With Ella Collier’s Upcoming Single/Video “UPGRADE.”
From pop's mind idol-in-the-making Ella Collier. "UPGRADE" is a retro-futuristic anthem for the masses. Originally from Atlanta, now living in Los Angeles. Writing, performing, and producing her own music makes her one of the most well-rounded artists out there. Ella is here to show you the complete and total powerhouse she is. Taking heavy influences from other pop musicians but also introducing elements of trap, EDM, and hyper-pop. "UPGRADE" is the first single from a much larger project Ella currently is working on. Collaborating with Sam Vendig they've created a truly unique soundscape. UPGRADE questions large-scale structures in society from consumerism to how the media, social media, and schooling have trained and programmed us to trust and achieve the hierarchical benchmarks of life." she describes.
Taking her own description, the music video has a strong Matrix vibe to it. With a very early 2000's vibe, the visuals are what I like to call "future retro". When many hear the word "retro" they think of the 70/80's however, the 2000s were almost 25 years ago! With a very unique and peculiar aesthetic Ella has captured the essence of this time period almost to perfection. With bright neon lights, CRT monitors, and tight black leather, our brains are put into a simulation. I love how Ella's outfit switches from tight black leather to an almost angelic white dress. This represents her spiritual ascension, breaking free from the shackles of society. "In the music video, you will see me start at a computer (at a desk) and evolve through multiple "UPGRADE" that reflect a spiritual awakening," Ella says and I couldn't describe it better myself.
Focusing a bit more on the music itself "UPGRADE" is an excellent showcase of Ella's talents. Her delicious vocals are accompanied by splendid lyrics.
