Breaking Boundaries with Raw Rebellion: Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes Release Their Explosive New EP

With a rebellious spirit from the ground up, screaming—quite literally—against social norms, censorship, and everything prescribed, artist Klovis Gaynor is making waves with his latest project, Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes, featuring Brayden Baird, Dane Bundschuh, and Josh Hausman. Their new EP, “BABY PINK SPLIFFS”, showcases their audacious sound and defiance. Unafraid to unsettle, this project dives unapologetically into sexuality, trauma, substance abuse, and depression, delivered with gritty, raw intensity.

In five tracks, Klovis creates a near-theatrical experience, confronting the taboo subjects that deeply impact the Queer community—a community facing ignorance, judgment, and the shadow of censorship.

“Essentially, the project is all about smoking spliffs and fucking men you shouldn't. I weave together different sexual experiences of mine to discuss larger and often overlooked aspects of queer identity. In the title track, ‘BABY PINK SPLIFFS’, I describe a discreet sexual experience turned sexual assault,” shares Klovis, shedding light on the personal yet universal struggles within the LGBTQI+ sphere.

To Klovis, true freedom for the Queer community will only come with the dismantling of taboos and the end of ignorance-fueled prejudice. “Queerphobia creates an unsafe environment for all of us. Everything is so delicately interconnected. The darkness does not come from the DL daddies, the darkness does not come from my past or my own trauma-informed, high-risk sexual desires, but rather through a system designed so narrow that the light cannot shine through it. The DL Daddies were taught the shame, and I was taught the same.”

In addition to discussing sexuality, Klovis’ music intensifies with each track, with raw honesty giving way to an incendiary mention of Jesus as a "slut" he takes to bed, ending with a vision of burning together in hell. Provocative as it is, Klovis’ style—steeped in the theatricality of art rock—reveals undercurrents of profound pain, loneliness, and a relentless search for love.

Yet, Klovis reminds listeners that his music is also hopeful. “While one might assume an EP about sexual abuse and drug addiction would be rather hopeless, ‘BABY PINK SPLIFFS’ is surprisingly full of hope—hope through loss, hope through acknowledging the hurt, hope through bearing witness to the pain of a man, of many men, of my own; hope through seeing the systems, how they help and how they hurt; hope through singing, hope through screaming, hope from sharing and growing, hope from holding forgiveness and love for those who are also still learning; hope from setting boundaries, changing behaviors, and learning towards the light.”
