Caelin Saves Herself From Herself

Drawing inspiration from prominent artists such as Faye Webster, Maggie Rogers, Men I Trust, and Billie Eilish, Caelin crafts powerful, melodic journeys.

Based in Austin, TX, Caelin is a rising singer-songwriter who'll make a believer out of anyone who listens to her powerful vocals for even a split second. Her music's introspective and graceful, full of insight and hard-earned wisdom about interpersonal relationships, which is precisely what her Debut EP, 'Save Me From Me' is about.

In 2020, Caelin wrote the majority of her current batch of songs while taking in new musical influences and honing in on her music-making process. Seeking help to work on her production skills during the COVID pandemic, she collaborated with Austin singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Mobley. Throughout the next year and a half, they wrote and produced her debut EP, ‘Save Me From Me’ along with production from Mason Ables (Back to the Ground) - all of which was produced virtually, over Zoom.

The tracks that constitute the EP document her experiences in interpersonal relationships, both romantic and platonic, as well as her relationship with herself and how, like many, her time spent in isolation was spent in deep reflection on her emotions. With nothing to distract her during this period of darkness and uncertainty, the only escape she had was through her music.

'Save Me From Me' kicks off with its self-titled track, a guitar picks up where heavy years had left. And so it soars, a strangely familiar Pop-Folk-Americana sweet tea that caresses a part of your soul that's been rubbed raw by some of life's severity. It all honestly feels like a warm comfort dish that chases out the cold and the rain, it makes one get cozy and think about sunshine hitting your face at the right time of day.

Caelin wastes no time in showing the full sleeve of emotional range that she's wearing, her very subtle mezzo-soprano makes you collapse under your own weight as she sings the words "All the Thoughts Just Itching to get out" and you just know you're listening to something meaningful and quite easily iconic - though that word being thrown around too much nowadays.

I often like to compare music to food, and if our souls eat, then certainly a good song can be thought of as a gourmand dish. In the case of the song selection we have in this 5-Song EP, everything is as hearty as can be: Like a nice stew, all rich and rustic but not overly so. No flavor gets overpowering, and no ingredient stands out of place, everything in the EP feels 'Hearty', Comforting, and cozy to listen to, you feel deeply nourished and replenished even before Caelin has said and done all she can.

The first track is rather straightforward Americana, yet from 'Nobody's Home' onward, Caelin shows she's not afraid to get a teensy bit experimental, just to draw out an unconventional edge to her overall production, a nudge towards the electronic and cinematic without ever really pulling herself out by the roots and moving into less organic territory, in fact, the subtly haunting notes she pulls out of these less acoustic elements serve to enhance the experience.
