Dream Prescription Releases “Settle Down”: Confronting Doubt to Live Fully

Since its debut in 2020, Dream Prescription has carved out its place in the New York music scene and beyond. Initially formed by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Tim Robert alongside synthesist Kent Friedman, the project took a bold leap in 2023-2024 by expanding its live performances to include a full lineup featuring bassist David Leatherwood and drummer Adam Fischel.

The band dives into themes of dreams, aspirations, and the quirks of modern life, aiming to connect with listeners genuinely. Recent singles like "Start Over Again" and "Get The Picture," have been making waves, racking up serious streams on Spotify.

With a steady flow of new music on the way, they’re clearly on a mission to keep things interesting. As 2024 draws to a close, the band has one last single to release before moving forward: “Settle Down.”

“Settle Down” features the band’s signature synth-heavy alt-rock sound, infused with a live-wire intensity that draws you in from the very first thrilling seconds. While the song is intense in every sense, it also showcases impressive musicality, engaging the listener on more than just a visceral level. 

Funnily enough, the song emerges from a place of doubt and uncertainty for Tim Robert, who admits, “Sometimes I wonder if I’m crazy to play in a rock band, being older than the typical aspiring front person. The initial inspiration for 'Settle Down' was me rebelling against those kinds of doubts…” This inner conflict is palpable in the song, and it creates a humorous paradox when you consider how fantastic his vocals are, especially when you remember that Iggy Pop is still performing shirtless at 77.

The lyrics convey a sense of defiance against the usual life script, expressing a raw craving for freedom and spontaneity. With the mantra "I'm never gonna settle down," the band embraces the thrill of uncertainty, choosing a life that feels ‘real’ rather than predictable. At the same time, there's an underlying tension as the song grapples with external pressures.
