EVVAN Reveals The Little Things
The non-binary singer, producer, and songwriter EVVAN, just released the EP The Little Things, made up of 4 very well-achieved singles in lyrical and musical terms.
‘Craving’, ‘Dust’, ‘Hold Me Close’, and ‘The Little Things’ are the tracks that make up this release. The first one has a rather lively style that combines rock notes, exploding guitars, and an EVVAN focused on a very scratchy and daring vocal style. ‘Dust’, on the other side has a much softer style. The accompaniment of the guitar and the strong but subtle voice of the artist gives it a calm touch that is broken when the choir approaches and other elements are incorporated to raise the tone of the song. ‘Hold Me Close’ walks in an intermediate line with a very deep lyric about the need for containment that human beings have, especially in this time of global turmoil.
In regard to ‘The Little Things’, EVVAN said "This song gently pushes you to take a look around and pause for a moment to remind yourself of the little, seemingly insignificant, things in life to be thankful for”.
As an artist, they have a strong message about staying present and appreciating what we have over what we don’t. “It’s human nature to want things, but we rarely see what’s already in front of us. Some of us have a roof over our heads while others don’t. Some of us have warm, home-cooked meals that fill up our tummies while others don’t”. (…) “So, let’s focus on the little things. At the end of the day, they’re not so little if we acknowledge how lucky we are to have them”.
The Little Things EP dives the listeners into all aspects of vulnerability. “Many, if not most, people have difficulty expressing their deepest emotions whether they be anger, sadness, loneliness, even love” EVVAN claims.
Their struggles with mental health and their own person who was looking to find the gender identity that would make them feel whole are captured in the lyrics of their songs.
EVVAN’s writing continues to go through twists and turns, as they experiment with new ways to tell stories and coax listeners' minds to open up to new perspectives through textured melodies, layered harmonies, and evocative lyrics.
