Krissy’s latest outing is a rock-solid EP titled “Eat This Cake” which is an astounding 7-song-long collection of club-ready anthems meditating upon the many pitfalls and opportunities found in “modern dating”.
According to krissy’s new EP, the dating scene is a labyrinth of excitement and uncertainty. With technology and social media, finding a genuine connection can be a delicate dance of strategy and serendipity. Communication has taken on a new level of complexity, and the fear of vulnerability and rejection can make it challenging to express genuine emotions.
Asking "What are we?" now has a plethora of answers compared to just a couple of years ago. However, the urge to fully understand everything hasn't really progressed along with it - at least not for krissy. With her powerful vocals and softly sung lyrics, krissy questions these romantic limitations with infectious melodies that can make you dance even in the midst of frustration.
The titular and seventh track is, as you might expect, a rough encapsulation of the whole work into one song. “Eat This Cake” is a poignant exploration of the complexities of romantic relationships. The lyrics convey the emotions of one partner who feels that they are not receiving the same level of affection in return. The chorus delivers a powerful message that the other person cannot have everything they want and cannot have the singer entirely to themself. The second chorus delves deeper into the idea of toying with someone's feelings and the importance of being committed to a relationship.
“Eat This Cake” as a whole is a curious piece that sets itself apart by doing a lot of things and excelling at them as well. krissy’s vocals are smooth and sultry but full of gravitas as well.
