Story by Ben Breqzer Requena
“Do you realize how many lollipops we could've bought with this money?”
That’s what Tyler Cohenour (frontman) said to Garrett Carr (bass/vocals) after buying the most unreliable (and coolest-looking) car ever, which was very similar to a DMC DeLorean (Ingenious reference to Back to the Future) from this random guy they trusted in Royal Sugar’s brand-new video.
Royal Sugar recently released a single called "Heels." With their phenomenal sound and sophisticated chic, this video is all about old-fashioned/futuristic out-of-this-world display alongside amazing, desert landscapes and a close encounter of the third kind with a dazzling she-alien who invites/commands them to perform at the funkiest space gig ever!
What is really legit about them is that their chemistry is undeniable on and off the stage. The mesmerizing charm and exceptional vocals of Cohenour along with the delivery of astonishing bass tunes provided by Carr, together, make the perfect mixture of an energizing blend of classic glam rock influences and present-day pop sensibilities. Their presence on stage is breathtaking and refreshing at the same time, their songs are so catchy and distinct thus separating themselves from the rest of the emergent performers.
The members of Royal Sugar are, without a doubt, the future of rock ’n’ roll in Nashville, although, they first met in college in Florida, the same state they both hail from. Growing up, both musicians had a penchant for the type of rock music their dads raised them on, like AC/DC. Upon meeting and becoming friends, they realized they may be musical soulmates. They have run together ever since and ended up relocating to East Nashville in 2016. They bought a house and turned it into a studio where they began their writing relationship.
They only became Royal Sugar in fall of 2021, as a product of pandemic isolation and a reinvigorated desire to make things happen for real. Although they weren´t able to see each other due to COVID-19, the two kept themselves productive by writing together and covering their favorite songs over Skype.
In July 2022 was their first appearance with "California Nightmare" as their first original song. They place themselves decisively in rock's future with this sparkling fusion of the past and the present. But before that, they made their debut that same year by doing a cover of Harry Styles’ “Medicine.”
The kind of glam rock they perform is loud, stomping, straightforward, and flamboyant, with big guitar riffs and repeating chants that will encourage crowds to sing along. Royal Sugar takes all these self-glorifying and decadent elements from pop metal to create upbeat rock anthems like HEELS. They are basically rebelling against the rebellion.
Thanks to their genuineness, they have gained millions of streams and fans on social media. Their strong bond and love for music are the foundation upon which their success has been built. In other words, they’ve joined the essence of their musical uniqueness and visual looks to create a world that's inimitably their own. Submerge yourself deeply in the raucous world they've created for you. So, what are you waiting for? Come and experience the Royal Sugar rush for yourself!
