Moonwater: Where Indie Rock Meets Mainstream Magic

“‘I’ve Got No Friends Here’ is an idea that grew and evolved with us throughout our 20’s. In the summer of 2021 we were in Nashville, sitting in a hotel room waiting to go to a co-write. Trying to brainstorm ideas, Mike played something on the guitar that caught Chris’ attention - who was trying to take a nap. It reminded Chris of a guitar riff he had written in college- 2016 to be exact. He rolled over and asked for the guitar so he could remember the riff, since he never wrote a song because it was ‘too hard to sing and play something over it.’ Mike loved the riff and wrote the chorus within minutes, based on a title Chris also suggested from a note on his phone called ‘seeds’ - a long list of song titles and ideas that he kept while in college as well. ‘I’ve Got No Friends Here’ was originally an admittance while moving to a new city. The song tries to tackle the idea of becoming comfortable setting boundaries and saving your energy for the people who mean the most to you, and in the process learning that not every person you meet is going to be deserving of that energy. Of being a friend. Eight years in the making during the core of living in your 20s. It’s a song of proud independence, in a playful and energetic way.” — Moonwater
