After graduating from college Julia's life was at a crossroads and she decided to pursue her true passion: perform. She moved to New York, took acting classes, and joined an indie pop band. This made her grow as a musician and further developed her sound and style. Then in 2019 she finally launched her debut EP, however, something terrible happened - something that forever changed her. That same year she was hit by a taxi. After the accident, Julia had to learn everything from scratch as if someone hit the reset button on her. But this didn't stop her, on the contrary, her determination burned stronger than ever. “It gave me an even bigger, burning desire to do what I wanted to do,” she says, “I wanted to continue creating.”
Now she's getting ready to materialize the vision for her debut album but before that, she's giving a sneak peek at what's to come with her single "Say Yes." Produced by Josh Ascalon (Neon Indian, Twin Shadow) the song is the perfect presentation of Julia's sound, where otherworldly synths reign supreme, all centered around her sexy voice. Sexiness can be felt in each verse giving them the exceptional ability to enchant anyone who listens. “Upside down is how my life has turned,” she sings in one moment. Truly delightful and inspiring. The haunting rhythm feels almost experimental, pushing the boundaries of what is considered music. It is so captivating that it feels like being lost in a dreamlike world—a true masterpiece.
The story behind this tune is a curious one. One minute the idea was taking form in Julia's mind and the next she was giving free rein to her creativity, sitting at the keyboard writing everything. “It was one of those moments of inspiration where I felt like if I didn’t sit down and write now, I’d kick myself later.” Certainly, that moment of inspiration can be sensed throughout the track. Here we have a glimpse into the mind of an artist who is making some of the biggest songs of her career.
"In the song, I reflect on how I feel more than what exactly has changed. At this point in time I was searching for “why” this happened to me. I am in a different place where I have accepted that it has happened to me. I can release this song almost 3 years since inception. There are still other questions to ask but that will come as I continue to write the record."
With Julia's debut album on the horizon, she shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. "Say Yes" is a delicious appetizer of what she's cooking for us.
