“Alligator Death Roll” is the fifth record from Olivver the Kid, featuring seven tracks that reflect the experiences of Bryan “Olivver” Sammis, a former member of the band The Neighbourhood who has spent over a decade as a solo artist. Throughout his career, Olivver has faced numerous challenges, including struggles with drugs, alcohol, family problems, solitude, dissociation, and nostalgia. The statements in “Alligator Death Roll” represent his journey of overcoming these issues, which he sees as a manifestation of the jaws of life. Through his music, Olivver hopes to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges and offer a message of hope and resilience.

The chorus powerfully captures the frustration of not being able to accept life’s short course, with lyrics like “life goes by / it’s an alligator death roll / stars at the surface / ends up in depths below.” In “Bloodlines,” Olivver the Kid offers a raw and honest reflection on the complexities of family relationships, acknowledging that these bonds are not always perfect or everlasting. Finally, “Superman(ic)” represents the artist’s journey of coming to terms with these difficult emotions expressed throughout the EP. As he admits, “I turn depression into a line,” acknowledging that he is not above his feelings. However, he concludes with the empowering realization that he has taken ownership of his experiences, declaring “I think I finally lost the moment, at least I own it.”
