We have arrived at the end of another week, and as anticipation for the weekend build’s – much like our anxiety for an impending hurricane (that we must yearly endure) – we over here at Too Much Love have gathered some of the shows you shouldn’t be missing! This week is slightly Saturday heavy, but as always we have a little bit of everything for everyone, so pace yourselves and have a good one.
Thursday, September 13th – The Takeover @ Las Rosas
Tonight! Thursday, September 13th, Too Much Love’s latest event series: “The Takeover” will be taking over Las Rosas. The rock-centric night lands in Allapattah this evening featuring some heavy rock tunes by way of special guest DJ’s and local heavyweight musicians Eric Hernandez (Wrong/Torche) and Julie and Mariel (CRUD). If cheap drinks and great music aren’t enough to convince you, we are ALSO featuring a special giveaway courtesy of Technique Records: an RSVP through Eventbrite equals an entry to win a Motorhead vinyl! Moreover, for the first time ever, we will be screening the Lemmy documentary in honor of our long-haired, short-short wearing lord and savior. So basically a perfect Thursday evening. The event is free and begins at 9 pm, don’t miss out! More info
Friday, September 14th – Negative Spin & Pocket of Lollipops @ Gramps
This Friday, September 14th, Gramps will be hosting a free live show featuring upbeat heavy-rock outfit Negative Spin; New York No Wave, husband-and-wife duo Pocket of Lollipops and DJ Jan on the in-betweens. The show will be set up on the patio stage, conveniently the closest possible position you can be to the Pizza Tropical window, so grab a slice, a beer and enjoy some good music! More info
Saturday, September 15th – Road to HOC @ Las Rosas
The countdown to the indie-centric Miami festival HOC (House of Creatives) Fest has begun, with their third edition promising to be the biggest one yet. Headliners currently include MIA, Foster The People, Chromeo, Little Dragon, Sofi Tukker and Allah Las, amongst other stellar local and touring artists. Keeping with tradition, the creators are giving Miamians a taste of what’s to come with a series of warm-up events across the city. This Saturday, head on out to one of these events as the #RoadToHOC lands at Las Rosas. Live performances include: King Complex & Jaialai with DJ sets by Naufer & Mr. Jolt. Need an extra bonus? it’s FREE! The event will start at 10 pm! More info
Saturday, September 15th – Florida RASH Presents: Miami DJ Night @ Union
RASH (AKA Red and Anarchist Skinheads) will be presenting their first monthly DJ rager, with a clear manifesto of creating a night and space welcoming everyone who: “has a socially conscious, Anti Fascist, Anti Capitalist, Leftist, and progressive mind frame”. In these dark and difficult times sometimes we have to carve out an explicit space for like-minded ideologies, record spinning, and warehouse parties, amirite? Spanning Rock, Punk, Hip Hop, Ska, Reggae, Rnb, Soul, classic Salsa, Boogaloo, Metal, and all the other genres of the rainbow, the event is sure to be wild. Drinks will be sold at the handcrafted bar and merch will be available at the entrance, where you will also be charged a small fee of $5 which will be donated to an immigration rights fund. Inclusivity is important, and all are welcome, but please note the organizers have a zero tolerance policy for homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, Trumpist, and idiotic attitudes. Check it out! Saturday, September 15th – Meat Beat Manifesto @ The Ground
This Saturday, September 15th, Meat Beat Manifesto will be coming to The Ground at Club Space for an exclusive Florida show, and the artists only Southern touring date. The futuristic electronic innovator will be joined by local special guest Otto Von Schirach & DJ Carlos Menendez (Fire & Ice, Backdoor, The Church). The show is presented by Heroes Live Entertainment and tickets are available now on Ticketfly. The show will get started at 9 pm (going of course to the wee hours) but I would highly recommend getting there in good time, as someone who has tried and failed to circumnavigate the crowds of the club Bermuda triangle that is the ticketing area. That is the sidewalk in the middle of E11even, Club Space and The Ground on a Saturday night. Good luck! More info
Sunday, September 16th – People Don’t Know Shit @ Little Späti
And now for a sharp turn into the specific, Little Späti (a local venue space) will be diverging slightly from their regular programming of their weekly 12 hour jam session ‘Ambient Sundaze’ and hosting a special edition of the event with special guest Rat Bastard – aptly named ‘People Don’t Know shit’. Conversation topics will include, but are not exclusive to, music and gear; and as the organizers of the event clarify, “pretty much whatever is on our minds”. So if you have questions, ask the expert on everything and grab yourself some cheap and cheerful food and coffee, and listen to some musings and music. The talk itself starts at 7, and the end time is slightly open-ended. More info
