Hi Janice! Thanks for being here!
Hi there! Thank you for having me today!
What music played in your home growing up and does it influence your choices musically now?
Lots of different genres! I grew up around The Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire, Bobby Brown, Whitney, Chicago, Journey, a lot of 60s and 70s eras. I was also really into popular commercial music on the radio, like No Doubt, NSYNC, Jay-Z, a whole mixture of genres. They all generally influence my musical choices now. Good music is just good music!
How do you maintain a routine?
It helps to have a calendar, with a combo of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals to work towards. My calendar is sacred and honored, so I generally like to follow a routine to make sure I accomplish all that I’d like to do on a daily basis. Plus, I love doing all those things!
What are you listening for when you are listening to new music?
I listen for hooky melodies, production elements that really make the song pop, song structure, and chords/chord changes. I like to analyze what makes the song interesting, how it keeps its listeners. I also love hearing new styles paired with the story, the interpretation of certain concepts and ideas in the writing.
Is there a hit song you wish you would have written?
I wish I wrote “Summer Feelings” by Lennon Stella and Charlie Puth! It’s such an uptempo summer vibe with great production, memorable melodies, and fun lyrics. I also wish I wrote “Trip” by Ella Mai. So catchy!
Do you have any hidden talents?
I don’t know if this is a hidden talent, but I spent a couple of years learning Bollywood Dance! Haha. Fun fact!
What is inspiring you right now?
I love how music today has been incorporating fun 80s elements, which definitely takes me back to my childhood and aligned with my sound! I love this fusion of modern and vintage. It’s such a refreshing blend and I’m really inspired by it!
