One of the best new bands from London is coming to Argentina, British press claimed “Skying” to be the best album of 2011 . A record full of deep and intense rock songs that marked a new period in The Horrors musical career.
The band, formed in 2005, started as a garage post punk group strongly influenced by garage bands from the 60’s. In spite of that, last year, they weren’t afraid of a radical change so the gave birth to “Skying”, their most solid record so far.
We had a chance to talk to frontman Faris Badwan, days before their South American tour that will take The Horrors to Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
You started making music together because you had one passion in common: obscure vinyl and Djing. What is the most precious object of your collection?
Faris B: Provably my most precious record its not the most rare record, though it’s pretty hard to find and is one of my favorite songs; is called Baby by Ellie Greenwich. She wrote “Leader of the Pack” and “Baby I love You” and a lot of the really famous ones. That was the first single that she released under her own name in 1966 and it’s a really great one. That was the record that I was most happy when I found it. I found it at E-bay actually; E- bay at the moment is the best place to find records because unfortunately in London most of the best independent record shops are closing down. There was one where we always used to go in South London and unfortunately is now shut and it’s a bit of a shame.

The Horrors empezó, allá por el 2005, siendo una banda garage, post punk, fuertemente influenciada por las bandas del género de los ’60. Sin embargo el año pasado, sin temer a un cambio radical, compusieron “Skying”, el álbum más sólido en la discografía de la banda, lleno de canciones rockeras profundas e intensas.
Tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar con Faris Bandwan, frontman de The Horrors, días antes de emprender su gira por Sudamérica que los llevará a Argentina, Brasil y Chile.
Todos los integrantes de The Horrors compraten la misma pasión por el coleccionismo de vinilos, hecho que los llevó a componer música juntos. ¿Cuál es el objeto más preciado de tu colección?
Faris B: Probablemente mi disco más preciado no sea mi disco más raro, aunque es bastante difícil de encontrar. Es un simple de una de mis canciones preferidas, “Baby” de Ellie Greenwich. Ella también escribió “Leader of the Pack”, “Baby I love You” y muchos temas realmente conocidos. “Baby” fue el primer sencillo que ella publicó con su propio nombre en 1966 y es realmente genial. Ese fue el disco que me puso más feliz cuando lo encontré. Lo conseguí por E bay. E bay en este momento es el mejor lugar para encontrar vinilos porque, desafortunadamente, en Londres la mayoría de las mejores diquerías independientes están cerrando. Había una al sur de Londres a donde siempre ibamos y lamentablemente ahora está cerrada, es una lástima.
