Let's take a musical journey south of the border and meet Kevin Kaarl, a Mexican maestro of folk, pop, and rock. Back in 2018, he burst onto the scene with his debut single 'Amor Viejo,' and we took notice. The track, with its melancholy charm, quickly became a YouTube sensation, racking up an impressive 7 million views.
Only a few short months later, Kevin graced us with 'Vámonos a Marte,' one of our favorite Kaarl tracks, with an even more melancholy appeal and double entendre. The music video for this hit garnered a staggering 23 million views on YouTube, while the song itself garnered over 104 million streams on Spotify. It's safe to say, Kaarl's tunes became more than just viral hits; they were anthems.
Born with a passion for music, Kevin Kaarl's journey started early. He sang in choirs and played in musical bands throughout his childhood and adolescence. At the tender age of 7, he joined a youth band in Meoqui, Chihuahua, and later lent his voice to his primary school's choir. The call of music was undeniable, and he soon joined another band in his hometown. Kevin's musical roots run deep.
In 2014, the artist took a brief hiatus from music to explore the world of photography and film, but the siren song of music drew him back in. Today, when he graces the stage, he strums his guitar while his twin brother Bryan lends his vocal prowess and trumpet magic, creating an intimate musical synergy.
Fast forward to the present day, and Kevin is still riding the wave of creativity. His 2022 album 'París, Texas' includes 13 songs, featuring popular singles like "Como Me Encanta", "Te Quiero Tanto", "Siente Más", "Llora Más" and "Nunca Te Supe Cuidar". Most of the songs were written and produced by Kevin himself, with collaborations from American producer Chris Coady. In 2022, Kevin embarked on his first international tour, performing in cities across America, Europe, Latin America, and Mexico.
Come 2023 and not only is Kevin still cranking out excellent works that sound exactly like what ‘Arte naíf’ looks like, but he’s still making waves in the live circuit with a mesmerizing stage presence and an otherworldly live-performance acumen. You can catch him live in South Florida as Miami’s Escala Sonora is bringing him to the Miami Beach Bandshell this Thursday, October 12.
Added to the bill is Hunters Of The Alps, who will be opening. Mario Giancarlo, also known by his solo project name Hunters of the Alps, brings a unique blend of indie pop and new wave sounds infused with surprising elements inspired by his Latin American roots.
