The holiday season is all about family, friends, and a lot of good food! But with all the festive fun, it’s easy to let fitness slip through the cracks. As a fitness instructor, I get it—sometimes all we want is to cozy up, relax, and maybe overindulge a little. So here are five fun, easy ways to stay active and make movement a part of your holiday joy without feeling like it’s a chore. Let’s keep our bodies moving, our spirits high, and end this year strong!
1. Try a Holiday-Themed Workout
If you’re like me, a little festive touch can make anything more fun! Try a holiday-themed workout—whether it’s a “12 Days of Fitness” challenge where you add one new exercise each day or a playlist of holiday jams that’ll get you moving. Get friends or family to join you, too. It’s all about lifting the mood while lifting those weights!
2. Take it Outside for Winter Activities
Staying fit doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym! Embrace the season by trying outdoor activities that get your heart rate up while letting you enjoy the fresh air. Go ice skating, take a long winter hike, or even have a snowball fight if you’re somewhere with snow! In miami we are fortunate we can pretty much be outside all year long! So hit padel, or roller skate the boardwalk! A friend of mine, Yesjulz just started @rollerbaeclub a skating group of girls ! Nature makes every workout feel more refreshing.
3. Add a Daily Mini-Workout
When things get busy, it helps to break up your fitness routine into smaller sessions throughout the day. Try squeezing in 10-15 minutes of movement whenever you can—a quick morning stretch, a core workout during lunch, or an evening dance party in your living room. It adds up, and you’ll be surprised how energized you feel after just a few minutes of movement. I’ve just added free 20 minute workouts on YouTube ! Sometimes and hour is too long and too much commitment !
4. Make Family Time Active Time
During the holidays, family time is everything, so why not make it active? After a big meal, suggest a family walk or organize a friendly competition—think charades with movement, holiday relay races, or a light-hearted “family fitness challenge.” It’s a great way to stay moving, laugh a little, and create memories together.
5. Prioritize Recovery and Self-Care
Remember, staying fit isn’t just about workouts. The holidays are a perfect time to focus on self-care and recovery, which are essential to a balanced fitness journey. Try a stretching or yoga session, unwind with a foam roller, or treat yourself to a massage if you can. Staying fit also means taking care of your body, so you’re ready to jump back into the new year refreshed and recharged.
This holiday season, let’s keep our bodies moving in ways that feel joyful, flexible, and fun. Fitness can be a gift you give to yourself—keeping you strong, healthy, and ready to take on a brand new year!
