With six compelling pop tracks that capture chapters of a unique story, LA-based band Junior Varsity returns to the music scene stronger than ever with My Star. Core members Greg Aram, Zach Michel, and Brooke Danaher deliver an edgy, underground vibe in this EP, offering a mix of catchy and immersive sounds that highlight their diverse musical layers.
Junior Varsity’s latest project impresses with its versatility. The opening track, Cross The Street, sets a high-energy tone with a punchy drumbeat and an irresistible groove reminiscent of late 90s and early 2000s pop-punk bands.
Midway through the EP, the title track, My Star takes a surprising turn with a gentle pop ballad, slowing things down after the beats of Cross The Street and New York. Layered with Danaher’s vocals, My Star delivers a reflective and spoken word feel, adding emotional depth to the EP’s narrative arc.
“‘My Star’ is the final installment of Junior Varsity’s three EP trilogy,” the band shares. “It’s our last project before our debut album, and it’s a stepping stone to the mainstream. The EP tells the story of an underdog in a big city—a character people root for even when they’ve lost faith in themselves. It’s a love story captured in one year, offering listeners a glimpse into the dynamics of a fresh relationship. The last song leaves you wondering what comes next.”
Junior Varsity's trademark vibe kicks back in with Give My Heart, delivering the band’s signature sound—pure pop with touches of punk that have come to define them.
Closing the EP, Do You Really Like Me breaks from the mold, offering more of a spoken-word piece set to a layered musical background. It’s a bold shift from earlier tracks, yet the steady beats hold true to Junior Varsity’s underground roots.
My Star also marks Junior Varsity’s return as independent artists after releasing a critically acclaimed two-song EP with Warner Records.
Recently, they toured with Jean Dawson and LANY and are now gearing up for two headline shows inspired by My Star, thanks to growing fan support and attention from outlets like Complex, Billboard, and Ones to Watch.
Greg Aram, Zach Michel, and Brooke Danaher’s talent shines through in this EP, which shows that they’re just getting started, tapping into the golden era of pop while reaching out to fresh audiences.
