The Multifaceted World of Kayla Bohan: Acting, Music, and a Heart for Giving Back

Kayla Bohan is a name that resonates with talent, determination, and creativity far beyond her years. Born in 2010 and raised in Los Angeles, this international recording artist and actress began her career at the tender age of seven, quickly making waves in both film and music. With standout roles in critically acclaimed films like From Embers and Harper, Kayla has already earned prestigious awards, including the Rising Star-Best Actress Award at the Houston International Film Festival.

But her talents don’t stop at acting—she’s also a gifted songwriter, having co-written the theme song Panorama with Matthew Morrison and penned Maybe This Is How Life Should Be, performed by Heather Morris.

Her performances are marked by a depth of emotion and authenticity that captivates audiences, whether she’s portraying a character navigating complex family dynamics or delivering a heartfelt musical performance. Yet, Kayla’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Balancing school, work, and personal life in the demanding entertainment industry requires discipline and resilience—qualities she embodies with grace and determination.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Kayla is deeply committed to giving back to her community. Whether performing with her cover band for at-risk groups or donating essentials to those in need, she uses her platform to make a positive impact. In this interview, Kayla opens up about her creative process, the highs and lows of her career, and her aspirations for the future. Her story is not just one of talent but of passion, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference—both on and off the screen.

We want to know when you realized that acting and music were what you wanted to do. Do you think there was a specific moment?

I’ve always loved performing, but I think it really clicked for me when I did my first feature-length film at seven. Seeing how people reacted to it made me realize, “Oh wow, this is something I actually want to do for real.” It’s just always felt natural to me.

What are the good and bad things that working in the entertainment industry at such a young age has brought you?

It’s been amazing getting to do what I love and meeting so many talented people, but it’s definitely not always easy. Balancing everything—school, work, personal life—can be tough. And there’s a lot of pressure to be “on” all the time. But honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The good outweighs the hard parts.

Your film From Embers features the song Panorama, which you co-wrote with Matthew Morrison. Can you tell us about the creative process behind writing the theme song and how it connects to the film’s story?

Writing Panorama was such a great experience because I really had to get into my character’s mindset. Chloe has all these emotions about her dad, and I wanted the song to capture that. Since Matthew Morrison plays my dad in the film, working with him on the song made it feel even more real.

You also wrote Maybe This Is How Life Should Be, performed by Heather Morris in From Embers. What was it like collaborating with such talented artists from Glee, and how did you approach writing a song for someone else to perform?

It was such a surreal experience! I grew up watching Glee, so working with Heather Morris was pretty amazing. Writing for someone else is different because you have to think about how they’ll interpret it, not just how you would. But I loved the challenge of creating something that fit the film and her voice.

Your performance in Harper earned you the Rising Star-Best Actress Award at the 55th Houston International Film Festival. What challenges did you face while portraying that character, and how did you overcome them?

Playing Harper was definitely one of the hardest roles I’ve done. She goes through a lot emotionally, so that was a challenge. I spent a lot of time journaling as the character and thinking about what she’d be feeling in every scene. Winning the award was just the cherry on top—it meant so much to have my work recognized.

You’ve worked with industry veterans like Matthew Morrison, Joe Estevez, and Kyle Devero. What have you learned from collaborating with such experienced actors, and how has it shaped your approach to your craft?

It’s been incredible. I’ve learned a lot just from watching how they prepare and carry themselves on set. One big thing is that they take their work seriously, but they also know how to have fun with it. That balance is something I really admire and try to apply to my own work.

Aside from acting and music, you’re passionate about charity work. Can you share more about the causes you support and how you balance your creative career with giving back to the community?

We all face challenges, and sometimes the best we can do is use what we have to make a difference. For me, that’s my music. My cover band performs for low-income and at-risk groups, bringing music and support to those in need. I also donate books to the Red Cross and regularly provide essentials like food, clothing, and water to the homeless. My hope is that giving back in this way helps to enrich lives somehow and to strengthen a sense of community.

How do you manage to balance life as a whole? Acting, music, family, and so on.

Honestly, it’s a constant juggling act. I try to plan things out, but sometimes life just happens, and you have to go with it. My family and friends help keep me grounded, and I make sure to take breaks when I need them. At the end of the day, I just remind myself why I love what I do.

What advice would you give to other young artists who aspire to pursue acting, music, or both? Especially those who might feel intimidated by the industry?

I’d say don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Everyone starts somewhere, and it’s okay to feel nervous. Just keep practicing, keep learning, and don’t let rejection get to you—it’s part of the process. And most importantly, do it because you love it, not because you feel like you have to prove something.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for the future? Are there any upcoming projects or dream roles you’d like to share with your fans?

I’ve got some exciting things coming up, but I can’t share everything just yet! I’m always looking for roles that push me creatively, and I definitely want to keep making music. Hopefully, I’ll get to do more projects that combine both acting and songwriting.
