To have someone by your side, to share a bond that transcends the boundaries of “me” and “you” and blossoms into a profound “us,” is a rare and precious gift. Whether in the realm of romance or friendship, the true power lies in the unspoken understanding, the silent language of trust and loyalty that underpins the symbiotic relationship where vulnerabilities are met with empathy, challenges are faced with unwavering determination, and triumphs are celebrated with shared joy- it is the essence of companionship.

This whole idea of reciprocity is what inspired D’Arcy to create her newest release, “hold still”,  a beautiful and emotive stripped-down post-rock ballad about the power that we have to help another person center themselves amidst the storm, saying “hold still both means I will always hold you and I will keep you still in the face of whatever chaos and grief may come.”

The music video for the tracks features intimate and heart-warming footage of both D’Arcy and her partner. Footage that, I must say, each recorded of the other in the most candid manner, which I assume was an unintentional brilliance that further contributes to the song’s message. We’re not just seeing two people smiling at each other, but rather the perspective of a lover, someone cherishing their significant other, fully immersed in their presence and the magical here-and-now of being in love.

“hold still” paints a poignant portrait of unwavering support and emotional intimacy. The repetition of the titular words conveys a steadfast dedication to being the anchor in times of need, whether it’s when “the party’s over” or when friends are “dying.” Interestingly, the lyrics also touch on the idea of mutual understanding and connection, implying a deep, intuitive understanding between the two individuals, a shared emotional wavelength that transcends the need for words.
