Anna Linnea Södahl also known as Nea has an uncanny ability to tell unique stories using her music. As a renowned pop songwriter, Nea has crafted chart-topping hits for notable names such as Zara Larsson and Tove Styrke. However, her own story remained untold until 2019 when she finally stepped into the spotlight with her debut solo single, “Some Say.” The single was a massive hit worldwide being streamed non-stop. The song’s powerful lyrics and strong melody gained the attention of everyone. This single served as a precursor to her debut EP, also titled “Some Say,” which was released in 2020.

Now, Nea is releasing her highly anticipated full-length album titled “Transparent” With this album she delves deep into the modes of love that shape her life, from romance to friendship, and even self-empowerment.

Throughout “Transparent“, Nea explores the complexities of love, embracing the emotional roller coaster ride that often accompanies it. She fearlessly captures both the ecstasy and the despair that love can bring. A recurring theme in “Transparent” is the tension between relationships and Nea‘s devotion to her career. She grapples with the challenges of balancing her personal and professional life, expressing her frustrations and fears along the way. Combining pop and alt-rock, she uses her voice and lyrics to transmit her story. She wants you to listen and understand her experiences. Next, we have the focus track on the album “Sweet Crash” featuring British singer Declan J Donovan. Both artists bring their A-game to the table, perfectly complementing each other as their voices become one in this pop song. Love is important but we also need good friends in our lives. Losing a close friend is not something I wish for anyone.

“I’ve written hundreds, maybe thousands, of songs about romantic love, but when I had a falling out with one of my best friends, I realized there are so many angles of love that are not spoken about as much,” she says. 

“YES” strongly reminds me of the Canadian powerhouse Alanis Morissette. Yes friends, we have reached my obligatory Alanis reference! Nea has created a playful rhythm and I think it is safe to say this one is my favorite. So what’s next? Ah right! In “Take It As a Man” we get a terrible story of abuse and how Nea managed to overcome it. I bet many will feel represented by this one. “If nobody sees what’s going on/I wonder did it even happen?” This song is a reminder that no matter what life throws at us, we can always find a way to fight back. It’s a reminder that we don’t have to accept what comes our way, that we can instead choose to take control of our lives and fight for what we believe in. 

“A Lover Like Me” Nea switches gears once again, showing us she’s just not a one-hit wonder. She’s capable of easily handling different sounds and is not afraid to experiment with her sound. This tune almost feels retro, something from the 50s with a modern touch. The song is catchy, with an upbeat tempo that is sure to keep you well engaged. Atop the song’s simple, two-chord structure colored by bombastic live horns, Nea gives us all her sassiness with lyrics like “Imagine how happy we could be/If it was only me and me.” Now you better get ready to dance with “Cold Turkey,” the upbeat tempo will make you go wild!
