Bleeth Unleashes "Monarchs": A Post-Metal Reflection on Fire, Power, and Nature’s Majesty

Miami’s own post-metal trio, Bleeth, has unveiled their latest single, "Monarchs," offering a powerful glimpse into their forthcoming album, Marionette, set to release in April. The band, deeply influenced by Miami’s rich cultural tapestry, delves into themes of nature’s majesty and human impact in this evocative track.

Guitarist Lauren Palma shares the profound inspiration behind Monarchs, recounting her transformative experiences in California:

"I fell in love with California for many reasons—one of those being its natural beauty. I'll never forget the first time I witnessed the redwoods and sequoias. It was truly breathtaking. Their size, age, and energy are awe-inspiring. These things you can touch and feel that have been around literally before mankind."

In 2018, Palma encountered her first fire season in California, a stark contrast to her Miami upbringing. The devastating wildfires, particularly the 2021 destruction in Sequoia National Park, left an indelible mark on her:

"The worsening forest fires since then have been terrifying. The devastation of Sequoia National Park in 2021 was heartbreaking. I feared that these majestic trees might become relics of the past for future generations."

Monarchs carries a dual meaning—it refers both to the towering sequoias, revered as the “Kings of the Forest,” and to the concept of monarchy itself. Palma sees a striking parallel between the downfall of absolute power structures and the destruction of natural ecosystems, both driven by human arrogance, self-interest, and short-sightedness.

Musically, Monarchs is a crushing yet atmospheric piece that showcases Bleeth’s signature blend of heavy riffs, dynamic shifts, and emotionally charged melodies. It serves as a fitting introduction to Marionette, an album that explores themes of fear, control, and manipulation, inspired in part by Gloria Anzaldúa’s Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza.

Despite facing immense challenges—including a devastating house fire that left their bassist’s family displaced and the loss of their original drummer due to visa issues—Bleeth remained committed to completing Marionette. The album’s creation spanned locations and obstacles, including an intensive writing session in Mexico City, where the band found renewed energy and direction.

Now, with Monarchs out in the world, Bleeth is ready to fully embrace this new chapter. The song stands as both a lament and a call to awareness, urging listeners to recognize the fragility of both power structures and the environment.

Listen to "Monarchs" now and stay tuned for the release of Marionette this spring.
